From Idea to Launch: Building a UK Apprenticeship Platform on Bubble

The transition from classroom to career is a difficult one for all UK school graduates. The next stage is made possible via apprenticeships, but only if students are able to locate, follow, and apply before the deadline. The founders of "The Apprenticeship Candidate" came to Bubble & Beyond with a specific goal in mind: create the hub of UK apprenticeships, a single platform where students could find hundreds of possibilities, track their progress through each step, and never again miss a deadline.

This case study describes how we transformed that idea into a fully functional, student-first web application on Bubble.io, as well as the design and product choices that influenced it during the process.

About the Client

A platform with a UK focus, The Apprenticeship Candidate was created with the sole goal of assisting students in taking their first steps into the working world with assurance. Every student should, in the team's opinion, receive clear, easily available assistance free from paywalls masquerading as career advice, hidden agendas, or information dispersed across dozens of provider websites.

The brand is guided by four basic values: accessibility, opportunity for all, trust and openness, and student first. The product must feel as genuine and approachable as the mission statement.

The Challenges

Students looking for UK apprenticeships encountered a common set of challenges prior to our build:

Listings Scattered Everywhere Opportunities were dispersed among government portals, employer career pages, and aggregator websites that did not communicate with one another.

Difficulty in Tracking Applications While most systems allowed students to explore, they did not provide a true workspace for tracking deadlines, progress, or stages.

A Flood of Information Students required all of this information at a glance, not buried in a click trail: salary, location, level, opening and closing dates.

Issues in Narrowing Down the Search Students had to scroll through every position available, even when listings were combined. It felt hard to discover the correct apprenticeship, not just any apprenticeship, without the right filters by level, region, industry, or closing date.

Admin Complexity The internal team of the client had to add and update hundreds of listings each week, but they lacked an effective backend.

Missed Deadlines Students were applying for positions that had already closed because there was no obvious signal of urgency.

Our goal was to create a simple, quick, no-code solution that addressed all of these issues and could be improved upon without incurring significant engineering costs.

What We Built

We built the entire platform on Bubble.io, allowing the client to launch quickly, iterate fast, and stay in control of every workflow long after handover. Here is how we approached each feature.

1. A Straightforward, Four-Step User Process

Students arrive at a "How it works" walkthrough that breaks down the apprenticeship procedure into four confident steps: "Find your role," "Track your applications," "Succeed in your future," and "Stay ahead." The journey becomes apparent in a matter of seconds as a result of subtle color clues and visual hierarchy.

2. Categorized Career Trackers

In addition to an "All Opportunities" view, we organized opportunities into user-friendly trackers such as Finance, Engineering, Technology, Law, and Work Experience. Because each tracker has a unique brand color and live listing count, students may focus directly on their areas of interest without having to sort among unrelated responsibilities.

3. A Full-Featured Application Dashboard

A clear, scannable table of each active apprenticeship is the foundation of the product. The opportunity, company, tracker, level, location, pay band, opening and closing dates, and most importantly a colorful progress indicator that indicates urgency are displayed in each row. Green indicates plenty of time, orange indicates an impending closure, and red indicates imminent closure. The student can access the live application form with just one click on Apply.

4. Advanced Search and Filters

Applicants can filter the 500+ listings according to their preferences, making browsing easy. With just one click, users may search by keyword, filter by level (Level 3, Level 4, Degree, and beyond), filter by region, and reorder the table by opening or closing date. As filters are applied, the category tabs at the top remain active as well, each displaying the current number of matching roles.

A student is only three clicks away from a targeted shortlist, regardless of whether they want every Level 4 position in London closing this week or every degree apprenticeship that has just opened. For power users, an additional Filters button opens a fuller set of refinements, so no one is forced to scroll through opportunities that do not fit their goals.

5. A Personalised Application Tracker

One of the most important features we built was a personal Application Tracker, giving every student a dedicated workspace to manage every role they had applied for. Rather than relying on a spreadsheet or memory, students can log applications directly inside the platform and track each one through a clearly defined pipeline.

At the top of the tracker, four summary cards give an instant read on progress: Total Applied, This Week, Interviews, and Offers. Below that, a visual pipeline bar shows how applications are distributed across six stages: Just Applied, Under Review, Assessment Centre, Interview Scheduled, Final Interview, and Offer Received. Each stage updates in real time as a student moves their application forward.

Beneath the pipeline, a clean table lists every tracked role with the company name, location, industry, apprenticeship level, date applied, and current stage — which students can update using a simple dropdown. A Remove action lets them keep the tracker tidy as applications close or become irrelevant.

6. An Admin Panel Built for Speed

For the client's internal team, Bubble & Beyond built a dedicated admin dashboard for managing every listing. They can search, edit, and delete opportunities directly, with closing-date warnings flagged in red so nothing slips through unnoticed. The same interface handles fifteen listings or fifteen hundred.

7. An Up-to-Date "Add Listing" Workflow

A single, well-organised modal that includes the job title, company, salary, level, location, tracker, URL, opening and closing dates, and validation can be used to add new apprenticeships. The team now completes each listing in less than thirty seconds, compared to several minutes in the past.

The Outcome

Five active career trackers, more than 500 live opportunities, and a weekly addition of new listings were all part of The Apprenticeship Candidate's launch. Students can access the entire platform by subscribing for just £3 per month, which keeps the product truly affordable for the target market.

Above all, the product feels right for its target audience. In less than a minute, a young user can visit the webpage, select a tracker, look at ten relevant positions, and apply to the best one. In even less time, the admin staff can post a fresh listing.
